Golden West has over 25 years of experience in the Marine Industry.

Our Principal Marine Surveyor, Damian Turner, began his career at sea on the wooden fishing cutters of Southern and Western Australia in 1996. After more than 10 years involvement in various fishing sectors around Australia, Damian moved further afield to explore the greater maritime industry.

Endeavours include Ocean Towing and Tug & Barge operations, Multi-Purpose/General Cargo, Coastal Trading and Foreign-Going Shipping. Since 2005 Damian has provided assistance with several sales, and surveyed numerous vessels in Australia and South-East Asia.

Credentials include Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Engineering), and an Advanced Diploma in Commercial Marine Surveying. Seagoing certification is Engineer Class 1 (Steam),  Class 2 (Motor), Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) and Master <24m Near Coastal.

Damian is an AMSA Accredited Marine Surveyor, Accredited Grain Surveyor, Authorised Officer (Dry Bulk), and 3rd Party Flag State Inspector for the Marshall Islands Shipping Registry.  Professional registration is Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council UK, following membership with IMarEST, RINA and the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors (AIMS). Maritime OHS, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights licences along with MSIC and Flinders Port access are also currently held.
